I’ve tried the tomato-peach (well, nectarine) combination before in pizza form and loved it, so I decided to give it another spin for our smoothie guide. I didn’t realize until now how scarily similar the ingredient lists for the pizza and smoothie are. Main differences: The pizza has crust and cheese, and the smoothie has Greek yogurt. Keep ’em separate, folks.
- 1/2 cup ice
- 1 cup chopped ripe peach, peel on
- 1/2 cup chopped ripe tomato, peel on
- 6 basil leaves, plus more for garnish
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- pinch of salt
- couple of grinds of cracked pepper
Tomatoes are loaded with vitamins (C, A and K to name a few), but some studies have shown that their anti-inflammatory properties can help protect against degenerative diseases like osteoperosis and Alzheimer’s disease. And peaches boast a number of antioxidents. Fun fact: Fuzzy peaches are a member of the rose family.
Place all of the ingredients in a blender, and pulse until smooth. Pour into a tall glass, and garnish with basil. Serve immediately with a straw.
