Favourite green smoothie

Happy Wednesday, friends! As you can tell from my social media accounts, I’m in a bit of a green smoothie rediscovery phase at the moment. I’ve been feeling the need to incorporate more greens into my life, but haven’t yet had the motivation to start using my juicer since taking it out of storage. One of the reasons I’m so in love with this recipe is that it’s so darn easy, and it has the same effect as a green juice but with quite a bit less work. Baby steps, right? Things have been really busy around here with the move and we are finally almost all set up in our new place. At the same time, I’m trying to spend a bit more time on my job search efforts now that the bulk of our paperwork and move activities are winding down. So recipes like this one have been very useful around here.

This recipe is dead easy to make, and you can make it easier for yourself with a little bit of planning. Some tips from me would be to keep a batch of frozen bananas ready (you can un-peel them and freeze them, or freeze them with the peel on and just chop off the peel with a sharp knife before use) and keep a bag of pre-washed baby spinach in the fridge. The rest of the ingredients are things that I normally keep around the house – as a Canadian, it would be a scandal not to have maple syrup in the fridge, and then I normally always have almond milk and almond butter in the house. Add some vanilla bean powder, and you’re in green smoothie heaven in no time. Besides tasting absolutely delicious, it’s also a great healthy option that is both gluten free and vegan.

Favourite green smoothie {vegan & gluten free}

As you can tell from the title of this post, this is currently my favourite green smoothie. It’s super easy to make and comes together in no time at all – perfect for those busy mornings when you’re feeling like you need a serious hit of green before heading out the door.

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana (or 1 banana plus a handful of ice cubes)

  • 2 large handfuls baby spinach

  • 2 tbsp almond butter

  • 1 cup | 240 mL unsweetened almond milk (or non-dairy milk of choice)

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 pinch vanilla powder (or a splash of vanilla extract)

Method:

Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender or in the container of a hand blender. Blitz until completely smooth and frothy. Enjoy straight away.
