It’s 8:30 am and I’m already making dessert! Milky Way Rice Krispies Squares, to be exact. Who says you can’t have chocolate for breakfast, not this gal! I found our Halloween candy stash in the freezer, yesterday afternoon and knew I had to share this recipe with you all. It’s super easy and better than any Rice Krispies treat you’ve ever had, trust me. The secret is Milky Way Chocolate Bars or if you’re in Canada it’ll be Mars Bars (This is the way I use to make these Rice Krispies treats). I have searched high and low for Mars Bars out here, in Georgia and they don’t seem to exist. Did someone steal all the Mars Bars? What’s a girl to do? Well, go with the American counterpart, of course… Milky Way Bars.

They’re basically the same. Ok, I’m sure there is someone out there rolling their eyes at me. I get you. Yes, I can taste a difference between Coke and Pepsi and I know there’s a difference between Heinz and every other brand of ketchup. For these Rice Krispies treats, though, Milky Way bars are a perfect substitute. Dare I even say better?

How could you find a more perfect Rice Krispies Treat? You’ve got all the goods: chocolate, caramel, nougat, butter and Rice Krispies, swirled together into an irresistible bite and then topped with a thick chocolate icing. Are you drooling?

How to make Milky Way Rice Krispies Squares

It’s super simple. Melt the butter and chocolate bars down in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Keep an eye on this, you don’t want to overheat the chocolate. In fact, I tend to stir this most of the time, while it’s melting. It’ll look like it’s starting to separate, just keep stirring and then all of a sudden it’ll come together in this smooth, creamy mixture. It’s magic, I swear! As soon as you hit that mark, pour this over your Rice Krispies and mix well. Pat down into a buttered baking dish.

I usually make the frosting in the same saucepan, I figure, if there’s any extra deliciousness hanging around from the Milky Way mixture, it’ll only make the frosting that much better. For the frosting, melt the butter and chocolate chips together and mix until smooth. Pour this mixture over the top of the squares and spread it out.

Now, let this cool (if you can, it will take some major willpower) and cut it into 16 squares. I bet these disappear. You’ll come down for breakfast tomorrow morning and they’ll all be gone, if not before. Seriously, I ate the whole dish. BY. MYSELF. In two and days. I like my sweets, but these Milky Way Rice Krispies Squares take it to a whole new level.
