Juicy Vegan Burgers

vegan burgers

These juicy vegan burgers are so full of flavor, and the texture is absolutely amazing too. Even meat eaters love them.

Yes, I have found a burger that just about everyone will enjoy. You can grill or pan fry them, and they hold their shape.

These vegan burgers also have big time juiciness and umami- “the essence of deliciousness.”

Plus you can easily make fat burgers (like above), medium (like below), or thinner double-deckers.

This recipe actually began as vegan meatloaf. I discovered Impossible Meat on the Target app, and it was on sale. (They have a fantastic curbside program, so you should check it out.)

I love experimenting and making up new recipes, so I added a couple of new flavor twists. Then I put the mix into a covered container, to let the flavors mingle for several hours in the fridge.

Now this was supposed to be for dinner that night. We had finally gotten a break from the high temperatures, so I wanted a heartier meal.

Ugh, rain out of nowhere turned the day steamy. So yeah, no meatloaf.

The next day was even hotter, but I needed to use the meat I had defrosted and already prepared. I decided to make them into vegan burgers instead. OMG, I am so glad I did!

You will be very happy I did too. Let’s get started.

vegan burgers

First up are your vegan ground “beef” choices. Here are three options, but feel free to use the brand or homemade recipe you prefer.

Impossible Burger – the burger at the top of the post + the patties above.

The burger, with the onion rings, was made from Beyond Beef Ground.

This Homemade vegan ground beef is one I am trying next.

The other choices have to do with the what you add to your patties. There are 3 additions.

One is a condiment- like ketchup, BBQ sauce, or maybe vegan queso. That could be awesome.

Another is a liquid like beer, hard cider, or just water.

And the third is the seasoning. I like using an onion blend for mine, but taco seasoning would be amazing with queso and Mexican beer. Wowzer, I am definitely making that one!

The last step, before making and eating them, is just mixing the ingredients. Then you let it rest, while the combined flavors turn into something very delicious.

You could do this in the morning, and make a really, really yummy (and very fast) meal later that night. Perfect for busy weeknight dinners.

I also like preparing it on Friday evening, or Saturday morning. You can store them, already ready to make, for up to 2 days in the refrigerator.

Another time saver is shaping them into patties. placing wax or parchment paper between them, and storing them in a covered container.

Then they are ready for grilling vegan burgers for the weekend, and they are also perfect for tailgating season. That’s it. That’s how simple it is. Enjoy!

P.S. These Chocolate Chunk Espresso Cookies are the best dessert with these burgers.

Print Recipe
Serves: 3-4 Cooking Time: 4 to 6 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 to 16 ounce) package vegan ground meat, thawed
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons ketchup or BBQ Sauce
  • 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons water or beer
  • 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste) dried seasoning blend*
  • 1/2 tablespoon minced dried onion
  • 1/8 teaspoon (or to taste) ground pepper
  • 1/4 cup shredded vegan cheese, optional

Instructions

1

Add all ingredients to a medium bowl, and mix with your hands (easier) or a spoon until combined. Put in a lidded container and place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, but overnight is preferable.

2

Remove from fridge, and divide the meat into 3 or 4 equal pieces. Firmly shape each into a ball, and then press and shape patties into the same diameter as your bun.

3

Heat a large skillet over medium-high (or 1 setting higher than medium) heat. Add enough oil to coat the bottom of the skillet.

4

Add the burgers and cook 2 to 3 minutes per side. They can sometimes stick, so carefully slide/push your spatula under each to lift them. Place on bun and add any condiments and toppings you like.

Notes

*Here are two seasoning blends I like, but dried soup & dip mixes are great options too.

Trader Joe's Onion Salt is really good. They also have lots of inexpensive spice blends to try. (The onion salt is on Amazon, but I think it's more than double what TJ's charges.)

Garlic and chive blends are another favorite. I make up my own, but I found This Recipe that is very similar to mine. I use dried green bell pepper, instead of dill though.

I think these are Beyond Meat burgers, and that is definitely Miyoko’s Cheddar Jack cheese slice. Sooo good!
