Orange chocolate chip mug cake recipe

It cooks perfectly (and very fast) in the microwave, and the texture at the end is heveanly (as seen in the pictures). And yes, for those who may be asking, a cake can be cooked in the microwave. It completely works. So don’t you worry if you haven’t tried it before. It will cook.

We wanted to make this to be an easy recipe made with ingredients mos of us (that like baking) already have in our pantries most of the time.

The powdered sugar on top, we add it just to have a bit of extra sweetness, since the cake itself isn’t really that sweet. This is optional, as you cand add it, or choose not to. So if you don’t have powdered sugar at hand, you can skip it, no problem.

Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp (1.40 oz) (40 gr) all purpouse flour
  • 1/4 tsp (0.06 oz) (1.7 gr) baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tbsp (1.60 oz) (45 gr) white sugar
  • 1/4 C (2 fl oz) (60 ml) natural orange juice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp (1 fl oz) (30 ml) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 tsp (0.04 fl oz) (2 ml) vanilla extract
  • Semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • confectioners sugar (powdered sugar), for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  • Add the flour along with the baking powder, salt and sugar to an approximately 12.60 oz (375 ml) microwave-safe bowl or mug.
  • Add in the orange juice, egg, melted butter and vanilla extract and mix with a fork for a few seconds until smooth. If desired, add chocolate chips and mix a little more.
  • Place the mug in the microwave and cook on HIGH for 1 minute to 1 minute and a half until the mug cake is puffed and slightly firm (the time will depend on each microwave). It is important not to overcook it so that it does not turn hard. Also, make sure the cake does not overflow while cooking.
  • Remove the mug cake from the microwave and let it cool down for a few minutes before eating. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. You can also serve it with ice cream, fruit or whipped cream.
