This healthy, protein packed dessert recipe is made in a blender with silken tofu, melted chocolate and honey. It is so easy to make, can be Vegan & Gluten free, packed with protein, so creamy and delicious.

If there is one recipe I would say is DELICIOUS but super healthy, it has to be this chocolate mousse recipe. This recipe is not only made in a blender but it is also packed with protein and makes it super filling as a sweet treat snack and doubles up as a dessert. The trick to this recipe is the silken tofu, it makes all the difference.

I will be honest, I was not a fan of mousse – I never got the hype. It seemed too fussy and I just felt like it was not a dessert for me. My feelings changed when I made the ONE ingredient chocolate mousse however this recipe has converted me completely. I no make this recipe once every 2 weeks and have it stashed away in my fridge.

The beauty about this dessert is it can be served as a gluten free or vegan recipe. You can substitute the honey with maple syrup and it is a healthy, allergy friendly recipe that is simple to whip up in no time that is rich, delicious and indulgent. Not to mention, it is a no bake dessert recipe and who doesn’t love chocolate?

What is a mousse? What is mousse made of?

A mousse is a cold dessert that is normally made with a stabilizing/setting ingredient such as egg or whipped cream. Depending on the recipe you are using, the method will vary. However all mousse recipes will tell you that it needs to set in the fridge before serving. If done right, it is light, airy and very delicious.

What makes a mousse a mousse?

The light, airy and creamy texture is what makes a mousse a mousse. It is most often the not served sweet but you can serve it savory s well. It could be topped with whipped cream or a drizzle of some sauce.

What is chocolate mousse made of?

A classic chocolate mousse recipe will have chocolate, eggs, sugar and heavy cream. However there are recipes using chocolate and water to make it or chocolate and cream to make it. Depending on the type of recipe you are making the ingredients will vary.

How is chocolate mousse different from chocolate pudding?

Chocolate mousse most often than not is light and airy because of the whisking that makes the mixture mousse like in consistency. Chocolate pudding is not whipped and doesn’t have an airy texture, it is dense and heavy – still creamy in consistency but not cloud like airy.

What ingredients do you need to make this 3 Ingredient Healthy Blender Chocolate Mousse?

Silken tofu –

This recipe is a protein packed dessert, aka it needs protein. Here the protein is from the silken tofu that is excellent. It blends well and makes for a creamy texture once whipped up. You can attempt to substitute this with firm tofu but it will not have that creamy consistency. And I would strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove any graininess. Hence I would recommend silken tofu all the way.

Chocolate –

We need dark chocolate to make this mousse. I have used an 80% dark chocolate here. You can use anything above 70% has it is bittersweet but it balances out the flavors well. You can use white or milk chocolate as you please but I prefer the flavor of dark chocolate.

Honey –

A little honey goes a long way. I prefer using Manuka honey but by all means use any honey or liquid sweetener you prefer. It helps with the texture but also makes for a healthier and sweet alternative.

What equipment do you need to make this 3 Ingredient Healthy Blender Chocolate Mousse?

We need a blender to mix the mousse mixture together. I have melted the chocolate in a bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds until it is liquid. You must stir the melted chocolate together inbetween to ensure everything is well combined. I like to set the mousse in different glass containers, you can serve it in one large bowl as well – depends on who you are serving it to. Also this needs to chill in the fridge for the best results.

How to make this 3 Ingredient Healthy Blender Chocolate Mousse?

We start by melting the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds or until smooth, stirring between to ensure everything is mixed. In blender add the silken tofu, melted chocolate, honey and blend until smooth. This might take a couple of minutes but be patient. Using a spatula scrape down the sides and blend until smooth. Pour into serving glasses and set in the fridge for 1-2 hours. Sprinkle over sea salt flakes and serve chilled.

Storing and serving this 3 Ingredient Healthy Blender Chocolate Mousse?

Once the mousse is ready to serve you can serve it with whipped cream, grated chocolate, fresh berries/fruits and sea salt flakes. I also like serving it with toasted nuts for extra crunch. You can serve it with biscuits as well. The leftovers can be stored in the fridge for upto 5 days. I would recommend covering it before storing to avoid drying out. They will deflate as the air gets knocked out of them the longer you store it. But you could totally make it the night before serving as a great make ahead dessert option.
